During my research I found a very informative book that speaks of the societal effects tobacco had on people prior to and after the American Revolution. The book that I found was "Tobacco Culture: The Mentality of the Great Tidewater Planters on the Eve of Revolution" by T.H. Breen. The book doesn't talk too much about minorities during this time although it does paint a good picture of how the attitudes of many Virginians and other American colonists alike were influenced by the cultivation of tobacco.
